"Listen to me, son, after you hit rock bottom, everywhere you look appears as if your entire world is all gone. You get the feeling you have nowhere to go, your will to live becomes almost non-existent, but the one thing you still have is your dreams, and that is something no one can ever take from you.” If someone said these words to you, what would your response be? Mr. Nectar, the pear, was always an inspiration to Jacob and the other pears and, despite his own circumstances, he wanted others not to lose their hopes and dreams. This is the story of Our Market by Glenn D. Glasgow. The story centers around the fruits living in an orchard and the journey they encounter as they go to market. Glenn uses fruits - pears, apples, grapes, watermelons, and bananas - to represent the diversity of everyday life.

In this story, the young reader will see hopes, dreams, and challenges, and gain an understanding that things turn out as they should, which may not always be what we planned. What these characters will go through in this story reflects us in the world today. I enjoyed this book because of its humanity and the essence of good nature as seen through the eyes of the fruits along with some other characters like the fruit fly, an ant, and mold. In this book, you will discover both the good and bad of human nature but also a hint of love and appreciation for the little things. As we walk on this earth, we will see all types of people, situations, and circumstances but it is our diversity that helps us to build a great country. Pick up your copy today.
