Our First Christmas is a compilation of four different stories written by four different authors. In A Ranger for Christmas by Mary Burton, Marisa Thompson, a history professor who studies ancient languages, agrees to help Texas Ranger Lucas Cooper solve a case involving a code that no one has been able to decipher. Instead of avoiding the holiday season altogether like she usually does, maybe Lucas can remind her of how joyful it can be. A Southern Christmas by Mary Carter is about Danielle Bright heading home for Christmas, determined to win back her ex. Since she is also writing an article for a magazine, photographer Sawyer is tagging along. Will Dani get her ex back? Or will she start falling for someone completely unexpected? In Christmas in Montana by Cathy Lamb, Laurel heads home for the holidays, only to find out that her ex-boyfriend, Josh, the one person she has been avoiding for years, now owns her family’s home. Unable to avoid him now, she must try to get her home back while also ignoring the undeniable feelings still between them. Finally, in Under the Mistletoe by Lisa Jackson, Megan is staring at divorce papers she recently had drawn up. When her husband, Chris, gets in a car accident and ends up fighting for his life, she begins to question whether she is making the right decision while reminiscing about their first Christmas together.
I’m a sucker for romances, especially Christmas romances, so Our First Christmas was an absolute joy to read. Each author had their own distinct writing style and each story had a very different plot, making the book as a whole completely unique and enjoyable. If you’re anything like me, your new goal will be getting your own cowboy for next Christmas. Even though the stories were very different from each other, each had characters to love, romances to swoon over, and endings that will most definitely put a smile on anyone’s face. One advantage of reading a book with four different stories is discovering four different authors who I will absolutely be keeping my eye on. I cannot wait to read more by Mary Burton, Mary Carter, Cathy Lamb, and Lisa Jackson.
