Ouch: A Comical & Quirky Tale About a Masochist, a Sadist, & a Klutz by Pug Grumble starts with Sylvester, a grown man who relishes his own torture and pain. He lives his day inflicting harm upon himself in creative ways and eventually becoming addicted to the strong kick from his agony. In Sylvester’s mind, his girlfriend Felicia is the perfect match for him through and through. Felicia’s addiction to inflicting pain on others gives purpose to her own life, which conveniently allows Sylvester to relish his anguish further by allowing his sadist to torture him in ways he cannot even imagine. When Felicia is thrown in jail, he is at a loss emotionally and physically. That's until he meets Natalie, a total klutz that manages to hurt herself constantly. Can love bloom for this most intriguing duo?
Ouch by Pug Grumble is truly a one-of-a-kind novel. Pug Grumble did a fantastic job of building the quirky and masochist character of Sylvester. His strong desire for pain was very well written and truly immersed me from the very beginning. The sadistic characterization of Felicia was also very well written, embellished with her crazy on-and-off personality. One of my favorite characters from the novel has to be Natalie for her seemingly innocent yet difficult tendency of hurting herself repeatedly by accident. Her personality was upbeat, cheery, and funky which kept me drawn to her. The plot of the story was also very interesting, intriguing, and highly entertaining which kept me glued to the pages for hours on end. I would definitely recommend Ouch for its uniquely addictive storyline.
