Open Ticket by Rebecca Clements revolves around two friends, Eva McKinley and Roz. Eva has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and she also wants to break free from her unfaithful husband and go to Prague to learn more about her roots. Both the women are going through difficult phases in their lives and are on a path to self-discovery. They hope to bring about a transformation in their lives and, as they begin their search for their lost selves, they meet with many obstacles, twists and turns. The Czech culture and the new people who come into Eva's life put a strain on their friendship. Will the trip help Eva find out more about her family and why they fled the country?

The book has many layers, making it an engaging story. Douglas, Eva's father-in-law, is also terminally ill and he was always the father Eva never had. The characters are all very real and relatable. The connection between the two friends and their friendship is palpable to readers. The author's writing style is simple and neat. She draws readers into the book with her descriptions, and the drama, conflict and secrets that unfold as the story progresses are very interesting. The twists and turns in the story as readers are taken on a journey with Roz and Eva, who are trying to understand themselves, and the author's fluidity in expression give a good pace and movement to the story.
