John Feinstein, a long time sports reporter and best selling author, shares his experiences from his college internship to the present day. This book is a personal glimpse into the roller coaster ride his professional career and personal life have been through as he captures life in various sports. With brutal honesty, high integrity and a passion for anything sports, Mr. Feinstein opens up a world that most of us do not get a chance to experience. From the perspective of hindsight, he is able not just to tell a story but add tidbits of information that make each tale personal to the reader. I laughed, contemplated, even cried, and will never view sports the same again. This isn't to say I have become a die-hard sports fan and certainly not of all the games the author enjoys.
What a pleasure to be introduced to the works of John Feinstein! Prior to listening to this wonderful audio book, these public figures were just faces to me. Some seemed nice, some had attitudes, some didn't even have a face or a familiar name. Now when I hear the names from the book, I perk up. I know their stories, some of their dirt and that some are no longer with us. I found myself appreciating his writing this book. I felt it honored not just the sports but also the unique people behind the scenes, on the court/field/ice/whatever and the great men and women whose lives are dedicated to making their teams the very best.
