I desire a sense of structure in my home as well as in my life. For me a sense of structure comes from organization. Eagerly, I read books on cleaning and organizing, but usually I find the similar suggestions in each book . Also, they are too inflexible for me to stick with. Not so in The One-Minute Home Organizer by Emilie Barnes. She states what we all know, but do not necessarily apply; for any change to work you must want it to work, and you must stick with it until it becomes a habit.
The best part of this book is Ms. Barnes insistence of placing God first in your life. “Look to God for the guidance you need in your life.” Learning to prioritize is an important factor in simplifying your life. For me this is learning to say “NO!” to some things. We need to place God first, family second and all other things last. Life can become just as cluttered as your home; clean out the clutter. “Get organized and make life a lot simpler.”
A daily planner helps us to organize our lives; we need a “monthly calendar, a daily scheduler, a telephone/address book and a filing system.” One of my favorite suggestions is to throw away things you do not need. This is my favorite, because I already do this one. Time is precious to all of us, and yet we tend to waste it. By organizing our lives, we can regain much of the time we waste. Lists are a significant factor in saving time. A list for the grocery store cuts the time we spend there. Emilie Barnes admits she is a bit of a neatnik, and not all of us are. However, there are some great ideas in The One-Minute Home Organizer that will help even the organizing- challenged person become organized.
