Living in the Willis clan was a constant battle for survival, so he packed up his bags and left the only place he knew as home. He was looking for a fresh start and he got it at the last place he thought he would. He enrolled in a high school where he met Lucas and they became friends, a luxury Jeremiah never had. However, Jeremiah doesn’t know it yet but something from Lucas’s past is coming back to haunt him. As they try to navigate school life and avoid bullies, they also have to make sure Lucas stays out of the problems that are somehow always following him. Can these two friends find a way to keep each other safe and out of trouble?

One Grey Night It Happened by Michael Fields was such a good story. I loved reading Jeremiah and Lucas’s interactions and how they grew to like each other. The way they became brothers in arms and how their relationship grew was amazing. While Jeremiah is a confident young man, Lucas is a little unsure of himself. They balanced each other out and had each other’s backs. I liked the suspense regarding Lucas’s past and how hard he tried to stay clear of it all. I loved how each little piece of the mystery was unveiled and allowed the plot to fully bloom along with that. The narrative is incredibly rich and the characters are given ample opportunities to grow and become bold. This is definitely a must-read!

The lyricism in the prose, the author’s ability to conjure beautiful images gripped me. I like it when an author makes me feel part of a setting and Michael Fields does just that. The characters are just as gorgeous as can be. They are flawed, and genuinely so, and they are human, like any of us, and so we are forced to feel their pain, thanks to the realism that breathes through the writing. One Grey Night It Happened is a story that inspires young readers to fight for justice and to take their stand against those who make life difficult for others. Told in a powerful narrative voice, Michael Fields’s story is a thoughtful tale that entertains and pulls the reader into a world where rules are defied. An exciting story with memorable characters, and one that speaks to all of us.
