On the Trail of Love: A Cowboy Road Trip Romance by Renee Yancy is amazing on many levels. Sadie O’Toole just hit rock bottom; she called off her engagement and her grandfather Eddie, the only family she had left, had just died of cancer. His last request was that she takes the mechanical bull, Bill, out for one last circuit. Upon leaving, she finds her grandfather hired an assistant for her, Henry Blake. Henry comes with his own baggage that could easily manifest when they visit the rodeos. Sadie’s stubborn attitude frustrates Henry, but could the past of this quiet cowboy be the death of her, literally?
I love to see Renee Yancy’s personal interests, hobbies, and history woven into On the Trail of Love. She obviously enjoyed the research and writing of this novel. The modern twist of a cowboy romance sets this book apart as the characters remind you of people in your own life. The author takes you on a trail that leads from rodeos to bachelorette parties, or fraternity parties. Each place has its own drama, which Sadie and Henry must work through. The energy and sparks between the characters add much drama and humor. The danger they face will have you glued to the pages of this enticing novel. Overall, I loved how Sadie had to find what she wanted in a man. She was choosing between a known relationship with added benefits and a relationship with a marked past. Justice is not always fair, and the stigma attached to a name is hard to overlook.
