Old Testament Overview by Yvonne M. Morgan walks readers through each book of the Old Testament and provides summaries in light of the Old Testament's foreshadowing of Christ. Yvonne additionally reflects on key details and attributes of God displayed in each book. She bases her work on notes from her father's biblical research, which he compiled while earning a doctorate in ministry and pastoring a small church in northern Texas. Yvonne notes that her father dreamed of writing a book based on his biblical research, but that he “never realized his dream.” Now, Morgan has gathered her father's notes and written this book to make her father's dream a reality. This book will primarily appeal to Christian readers or audiences that otherwise enjoy reflections on the Old Testament.

In Old Testament Overview, I love how Yvonne M. Morgan follows a clear, structured approach for each book of the Old Testament, including key verses, a summary, thematic sections, reflections on God's attributes, and insights on how Christ is foreshadowed in the text. The well-thought-out structure and pacing made it easy to follow and helped me understand key events and people in each book. One aspect I particularly enjoyed about Old Testament Overview is how each chapter concludes with concepts that foreshadow the coming of Christ. As an example, Yvonne discusses the Book of Jonah and how Jesus identified himself with Jonah while affirming the book's historical value. As someone who loves reading the Old Testament but who has trouble reflecting on the ancient text in a modern-day Christian context, I found Old Testament Overview very enjoyable.
