Of Stars and Clay takes place in three different parts of the world where we meet the main characters. Zachary lives in the Amazon with his native wife and two children; Haruto and her Native American husband Billy live in a rural area of Japan where other women with healing abilities live; Tom and his wife Cecile live on the Bear Claw First Nation Reservation in Alberta, Canada. All are linked by a previous war they waged to try to save the world as Earth Sentinels some years back. They are brought together again as a deadly engineered virus is unleashed, killing a large amount of the world's population. Each Sentinel gets this virus but survives and reaches a higher level of consciousness and awareness, along with abilities that help them get to one another despite the miles that separate them. Helping the Sentinels is a fallen angel by the name of Bechard who has much information about what led to the dire situation the earth is currently facing. Meanwhile, the rest of the world's population is being controlled by a dark force that is out of this world. Can the Earth Sentinels come together and bring down the beings that are poisoning the earth? While on their journey what other ancient secrets will they unfold that can change their entire outlook on life as we know it?
Elizabeth M. Herrera has written a masterpiece that reflects the state the world is currently in. We might not have been struck down by a deadly virus yet, but we most certainly are destroying ourselves and failing to listen to those trying to warn us. The character development was brilliant and I love how diverse people from different parts of the world who all know one another are able to combine as a solid team. The storyline was insanely addictive to read. I had an idea of what was going on in the back of my head but there were so many parts that both shocked me yet made perfect sense. It really makes you think and I adore a novel that does that. I think Of Stars and Clay is a book that will open the eyes of those who read it and hopefully take a bit of insight from it when looking at the reality we are currently facing.
