Kerry ONeal's Obscure Reality is a collection of short stories that offer some deliciously dark and eerie storylines. Cleaner Man presents the life of a sin eater whose practices lead to supernatural consequences. Is That You? tells of the unsettling behavior of a grieving boy and the impact of his imaginary friend. In Condemned, a death row inmate faces a cycle of torment and despair. Hell No follows a narrator's experience of existential suffering in an afterlife dominated by a malevolent force. Unconscious State of War details a soldier’s difficulty with injury and memories during WWII. Omni Trium Perfectum tracks the investigation of a serial killer targeting victims in a specific pattern. Justice is Served tells of a man's wrongful execution and the eventual revelation of the true criminal.
Kerry ONeal's anthology, Obscure Reality, is a masterclass in remarkable storytelling and the author does extremely well with this collection of foreboding, inventive tales. The writing throughout is superb, with each story giving readers a fresh and uniquely unsettling perspective on the supernatural and just plain creepy. I'm a huge fan of the Black Mirror series and Obscure Reality is about as close as I've found to that. The author offers new experiences for readers who appreciate more thought-provoking horror. My personal favorite, Condemned, stood out in capturing my own vision of Hell with a precision I hadn’t even fully pictured myself. Overall, this book is ideal for those nights that you already know will be restless. It is a boon for readers itching for more diverse stories and this makes it shine in an overcrowded genre.
