NYPD True: True Stories From One of the NYPD’s Most Decorated Officers is the up close and very personal story of George P. Norris. He takes us through his days at the Academy, his rookie beats, and his promotions during his long and valued career. George worked in the Southeast area of Queens, New York during the 1980-1990 War on Drugs and he was responsible for getting as many guns and bad guys as he could off the streets. During every one of his working shifts, he was regularly dealing with regulations, politics, and orders that were frequently impossible to follow. George relates many different experiences with great detail and honesty. As I read, I could envision myself riding along in the patrol car and watching the action taking place. Each story told shows the dedication and caring of the NYPD and how the officers risk their lives every day to keep the city a safe place for all.

I found NYPD True to be a fascinating reading experience and I truly believe that it should be required reading for every citizen, as it would give them a chance to see the men behind the uniform and the danger that they willingly expose themselves to daily. Many of my in-laws were policemen but they always kept the two lives separate, not wanting to share their day-to-day activities, and I now have a better understanding of why. George received more medals and honors than any other policeman in New York and understandably so. He, along with all of the Men In Blue, should and needs to be respected and honored.
