Chris P. Jackson brings to life the sometimes quirky and often stranger-than-fiction lives of medical personnel with his comedic novel. He has the crazier aspects of his characters spot on as they morph from serious-minded caregivers to near-crazy individuals infused with excessive doses of bravado. His subplots are just as riveting when they are not laughable, especially when you consider the bulk of the activity takes place within the hallowed walls of a hospital. I am particularly impressed with the way he throws around the hospital parlance in the conversations between characters in a spontaneous and easygoing manner that engages us in this funny tale. Kudos must go to Jackson's incredible storytelling as he brings sea battles and crime scenes to life with impressive wordplay that evokes brilliant imagery. Not Violating HIPAA is an entertaining reading experience.

Set in the Marquis University Hospital in New Sealland, these interconnecting short stories show various sides of a collection of characters. From pesky teenagers to found family, these stories touch on relationships, hospital emergencies, psychotic breakdowns, pregnancies, a badass Charge Nurse, and much more. So how much drama can a hospital on a small island in North America get? Apparently, a lot, and you are in for a ride of a lifetime.

Those who enjoy medical thrillers and medical TV serials will love this collection. Chris P Jackson adds simplicity and medical jargon to make the descriptions feel authentic without removing the entertainment factor. I love how connected all the stories are. The recurring appearance of the characters makes it easier to relate to them and get a feel for their development. The character guide, in the beginning, is helpful and works miracles as we become familiar with the characters. The narrative is written in a very eclectic style but is also very entertaining. I loved specific stories more than others. The Charge Nurse, Trauma Drama, and Mine Sweep are my favorite. Arthur and Bart are hands down my favorite characters, although Charge Nurse Conor is very close to the top as well. These three characters command the story, grab our attention, and ensure we aren’t going anywhere. There is never a dull moment; I loved every head-scratching, eye-opening, and mind-blowing aspect of these interconnected tales. Of course, the illustrations proved another high point of the collection. I highly recommend Not Violating HIPAA.
