North's Pole is a children's picture book written in rhyme by Lindsay Yacovino and Courtney D'Annunzio and is illustrated by Kaitlyn Terrey. North is in charge of training all new elves in Santa's Village. Her job also includes allocating jobs to each elf, all of which are matched to their strongest talents. When Tess is the only new elf left without an allocated job, North takes Tess to each department in Santa's Village to see where her skills match. After failing to twist candy canes, bake cookies, or stitch clothes, Tess is also unable to find her niche building toys in Santa's Workshop. But then Tess's hidden talent in portrait-drawing and art is discovered. She finally finds the perfect place where she belongs.
I am still smiling after reading North's Pole - an uplifting Christmas story with a twist. Lindsay Yacovino's and Courtney D’Annunzio's different take on the running of Santa's Workshop blends perfectly with the behind-the-scenes tale of everyone having a perfect niche - sometimes you just need to look for it. Kaitlyn Terrey's amazing artwork beautifully portrays each and every step in Tess's journey of self-discovery and learning her best talent. While I felt the heartbreak behind each failure, the joy when North discovers Tess's hidden strength left me beaming. I am sure that young readers aged 4-12 will also be left with wonderful memories and a heartfelt smile after reading North's Pole. I highly recommend this as an amazing addition to all homes and school libraries. It encourages the reader to dig deep to attain their true potential.
