No Place for the Weak at Heart is an outstanding murder mystery written by P.J. Jones. Detective Mendocino Jones wants to get away from law enforcement, so he hands in his badge. Jones is on his way to Big Bend National Park. While canoeing the river, Jones heard rifle fire, and he went toward it. Jones saw a man and woman being executed and was spotted. The killers chase Jones down, and he is left for dead in a cave. Tillie Tomlin, a photographer, wants to capture the perfect sunrise and comes upon the bloody Jones, who is barely alive. Tillie takes Jones to Study Butte, where he is hospitalized. Jones is determined to track down the killers and bring them to justice. The investigation leads Jones to the most powerful family in Texas and a big mystery to solve.

P.J. Jones planned and executed an intriguing and exciting plot in No Place for the Weak at Heart. I was immediately captivated by the story and couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I was in for a roller-coaster ride of mystery and intrigue. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. It was a nail-biting experience with all the non-stop action. The characters were exceptionally well developed. They were unique and relatable and I was drawn into the world that Jones had created. The events were described in detail and were engrossing. P.J. Jones is an excellent writer who had my attention throughout the story. The major twist at the end was a big surprise. I did not see it coming.

What was meant to be a peaceful and fulfilling experience for the former Dallas PD Detective Mendocino Jones had quickly turned surreal. Fed up with law enforcement, Mendocino had handed in his badge and called it quits. He headed to Big Bend National Park, Texas, just to let off steam and get away from the world. However, he found himself witnessing the killing of two people by unknown gunmen in the park. He then narrowly survived after being shot and left for dead in the Chihuahua desert by the gunmen, only to be rescued by an unsuspecting photographer. Mendocino was determined to identify the gunmen and uncover the motive for the murders once he recovered, but perhaps the gunmen had not yet done with him. Find out what transpires in No Place for the Weak at Heart by P.J. Jones.

No Place for the Weak at Heart will have lovers of mystery murder novels captivated from cover to cover. P.J. Jones bases his storyline on a compelling tale of romance, friendship, vengeance, drugs, money, power, murder, and sleuths. Incorporating adventure, suspense, and action into the storyline. I never saw the plot twists coming. He has a knack for capturing the mood and setting vividly. At one point I was taking in the breathtaking view of the Mesa de Anguila, the Chihuahua desert, and the Santa Elena Canyon. The next thing I knew I was deep in the ranch lands and streets of the culturally diverse towns of Texas. Jones develops the protagonists wonderfully, highlighting their complex qualities. This made them authentic and easy to connect with.

In No Place for the Weak at Heart by P.J. Jones, when ex-Dallas detective Mendocino Jones hears gunshots in the Chihuahuan Desert and witnesses the execution of a man and a woman, he becomes the killer’s target. Mortally wounded, he is found by Tillie Tomlin, a nature photographer, and rushed to the nearest hospital. Tillie feels an unexplainable connection to Mendocino, and he swears to find those responsible for shooting him, vowing to stay away from Tillie for her safety. He forms a friendship with Amos, the sheriff’s deputy in charge of narcotics, and becomes caught up in a volatile situation with Bobby Watson and the ranch hands of the Bar W Ranch. Tillie and Mendocino have their work cut out if they want their budding relationship to stand a chance.

No Place for the Weak at Heart by P.J. Jones is an intricately written suspense romance set against the harshly beautiful landscape of the Chihuahuan Desert in Texas. An intricate plot plays out that includes drug cartels and political injustice. The story addresses themes such as corruption, the influence of many affluent families in small towns, the concept of faithful marriages, and the importance of starting anew and having second chances. It impressed me that it contains no graphic sex scenes, nor does Jones stoop to using the Lord’s name. It again shows that if one has the right mindset, good stories can be written without the language many authors claim is required. P. J. Jones offers an exciting crime suspense story in No Place for the Weak at Heart.
