Nerys Leigh writes thoroughly romantic Christian historical love stories. She loves heroes who are strong but sweet and heroines who are willing to fight for the life they want.
She’s from the UK, which you would think puts her in a unique position to not write about mail order brides in the American west, but the old adage of writing what you know has never appealed to her. She has an actual American read each book before publishing to make sure she hasn’t gone all English on it.
No One’s Bride is the first in the Escape to the West series which tells the stories of a group of women willing to travel across America to find happiness, and the men determined to win their hearts.

No One's Bride (Escape to the West Book 1) by Nerys Leigh is a story of love, forgiveness, trust, restoration and more. Amy Watts has consented to marry Adam Emerson, sight unseen, but she has no intention of going through with the marriage. She needs a way out of her current situation, and allowing Adam to pay for her transportation across the country to California will get her closer to where she wants to be. Amy wants a safe place to live and work, a place where she can find happiness and she will depend on no one else. When Adam discovers that Amy never had any intention of marrying him, he is hurt, but befriends her and offers to help in any way he can. Over the following weeks a deep friendship develops, a friendship that Adam wishes could be more. As Amy goes to work to pay Adam back for her trip, her past abruptly invades her life. There are accusations of theft, time in jail, and ultimately a trial where a surprise witness changes everything. Amy has issues to resolve and Adam waits patiently, praying and hoping that Amy will decide to stay.
Nerys Leigh transports us to a time when life was hard and marriage was sometimes only a matter of necessity or convenience. As Amy escapes her life of servitude and unwanted attentions, she enters into a new world of kindness and sincerity which is all foreign to her. Nerys Leigh's characters are well defined, likeable and realistic for the period. The story is heartwarming and sad at the same time. Nerys Leigh held my attention with a well written story, filled with twists and a wide range of emotions. I look forward to the next books in this series, stories of the other mail order brides that arrived with Amy.
