No Freedom by Inge-Lise Goss is a suspense novel with a splash of something for everyone. It’s fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, romance, and mystery all wrapped up into one imaginative, futuristic tale. In a society where it’s considered normal for human-like cyborgs to walk among us and even hold positions of high authority, most believe the ways of the old world have been destroyed by hackers and have accepted things for how they are…except for a rebel few. Because it’s forbidden by The Institute to date below an individual's social stratum, legal clerk Paislee Hobson is struggling to find real love. After her heart-wrenching breakup with Tate, she begins a contractual relationship with a handsome and attentive android named Pellegrin. She soon realizes that he’s controlling her and can’t say or do anything without listening devices monitoring her every move. She must decide, and fast, if she can continue living life this way or join in the fight to defeat those in power for not only her freedom, but for those she cares about most.

No Freedom grabs you from the first paragraph! I can honestly say that out of the dozens of books I’ve read this year, No Freedom is one of the top two. I loved it. The author did a great job at making it feel realistic despite it being a fantasy/sci-fi read. It seems scarily predictive of what our future could hold as a society if we allow those in charge to act out their evil agenda and take away our rights and ability to communicate. The engaging plot, excellent writing style, grammar, and punctuation make this a five-star read (and higher if I could). This is a future movie!

No Freedom by Inge-Lise Goss is a futuristic dystopian thriller that follows a young woman named Paislee Hobson, searching for a way to fill her empty plus 1 spots when her first love is too lowly for her to ever have a future with him, and her most recent boyfriend has left her for another woman. In a future where the human population has been decimated and then pigeon-holed into castes under the stratum system, Paislee makes the choice to take on an AI companion. Initially, Pellegrin comes in as the whole package, including being passable as a human...until he no longer is...with dangerous ulterior motives that are bound to crush more than just Paislee's heart.

Inge-Lise Goss has written a creative new novel that has all the right elements to push it to the top of the book pile. No Freedom introduces a fresh twist on the dystopian, post-apocalyptic genre with the element of artificial intelligence smoothing over deficiencies in every aspect of life when the human population has dwindled to barely sustainable numbers. The plot is unique and – as difficult as this may be to believe - feels like it's somewhere in the realm of possibility (even if it's clinging to the fringes). Paislee is sharp and authentic; a likable protagonist that is easy to root for. The writing is tight with dialogue that sounds natural in a setting that is anything but. I think this story will find a wide audience across multiple genres and I am absolutely confident and comfortable in recommending it to others.

No Freedom by Inge-Lise Goss is a unique science fiction story that is set in an age of intriguing technological advancement. As Paislee Hobson seeks to move on from the pain her last relationship caused, her mother suggests that she purchase an android boyfriend. She chooses Pellegrin, an android whose abilities and skills are all that she had hoped for. Things, however, start becoming strange. People start going missing and, before she knows it, she is caught up in a trap set for her by Pellegrin. She risks losing her family to robotic enhancements if she does not cooperate. Still, there is a sliver of hope as her love from the past seeks to save her. Pellegrin and his friends, however, will not give up their quest without a fight.

Inge-Lise Goss’s No Freedom is creative and surprising in many aspects. The backdrop of the story was really fascinating, starting from the laws put in place restricting relationships between different strata to the ability of humans to purchase android companions. The conflict is also engaging. Both sides are relentless in their pursuit. Pellegrin and the other androids are focused on exterminating the rebels while the rebels will not give up until they have subdued the androids’ power. The characters are also well developed. Paislee is observant and starts to notice when things begin to go wrong. The supporting characters' roles are also well thought out. No Freedom is an interesting story and a must-read for science fiction fans who are ready to let their imaginative minds run wild.
