Ginger is quite frustrated with her new dog, Gretsky, a four-month-old Irish Setter with a warped sense of humor. She realizes she needs help, but when she reaches out to an old high school classmate and champion dog trainer, Linda, she discovers that Linda’s ex, Karl, has just been found murdered. And the accused is their shared German Shepherd, Tibor. Linda, a trainer, is accused of murder by means of training Tibor to kill Karl. But, in this twisted murder mystery, there really are ‘no bones about it’. As the list of murder suspects grows, the plot continually diverts back to one person. And it takes Ginger, amateur sleuth that she is, all her skills to unravel the mystery.
Donna Murray’s cozy mystery novel, No Bones About It (Ginger Barnes Main lines Mysteries Book 4), is another doggie-based mystery with a clever plot and decisive action. The characters are well developed and the scenario is believable. As the plot thickens, the main character, Ginger, uses her adept amateur sleuthing skills to put the pieces of this unruly puzzle together. There is a lot of pent-up frustration between Ginger and her old school acquaintance, Linda, that fizzes throughout the story. While the reader enjoys this cozy mystery, there is also lots to learn about dog training techniques and various dog activities, like the very controversial activity of dog-fighting. With lots of action, dog fun and very ordinary tidbits of life in general, this story makes a compelling read. I always love a good dog-based mystery.
