In the gripping thriller "Nightmares in the Neighborhood", William Jaman Taylor introduces us to Lisa and Michael Taylor, a happily married couple who are in the midst of moving into a beautiful new suburb, along with their 17 year old son Jason. Although they initially have some concerns about being the only African-American couple in their new neighborhood, they quickly become fast and close friends with the Martins, the couple next door who also have a 17 year old son. What the Taylors do not know is that their new friend Tom is haunted by visions of a racial hate crime he witnessed as a child, which was committed by members of a college fraternity. Follow the unexpected plot twists that develop in the friendships of both the parents and the sons as the boys head off to college.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading William Jaman Taylor’s debut novel. The characters are richly drawn and the story is captivating. I found myself completely unprepared for the plot twists that develop between the boys, particularly after they head off to college. I felt deeply connected to each of the characters in the story and Taylor has done a fantastic job allowing his readers to get to know each of them and their motivations. You will find yourself questioning what you would do if you were placed in the situations that the characters find themselves in. This is a great read and I eagerly look forward to hearing more from this novelist.
