Night Night My Child, written by RyAnn Adams Hall and illustrated by Inga Shalvashvili, is a colourful book that relates the nightly routine as Kayleigh goes to bed; from bath time to saying goodnight to daddy and puppy, and settling into a warm bed for the night. Mom says prayers of thankfulness for her child and for safekeeping until the morning. Each step of the process is described, down to the turning off the light and leaving Kayleigh to sleep well with good dreams. The illustrations perfectly complement the story as it shows Kayleigh and her family settling into the nightly routine. Even the puppy is remembered as the routine begins, which is delightful.
This is a very gentle story which will comfort and encourage children who might find bedtime a difficult time, whether it is because of being alone or possibly being afraid of the dark. The story is soothing and will be ideal for a parent to read to a child at bedtime. For a child that finds bedtime difficult, it will help to look at the illustrations and to relate to the story of how it is a quiet and special time. This story is a reflection of author RyAnn Adams Hall’s own experiences with her child and it is a beautiful testimony of the love and concern and faith that the family have. A lovely little book that will be enjoyed by all young children, and perhaps a simple story that will stay with them throughout their growing up years.
