Night Mares: A Father Gunter, Demon Hunter, Supernatural Thriller, Book 3 is a paranormal mystery novel written by J.R. Pestel. While this is the third book in the Father Gunter five-book series, the author gives enough background information within the story for it to be enjoyed as a standalone. Mayor Benson was beloved by everyone in the small community of Clemson. When her distraught children summoned the police to their home where they had found her grievously injured body in her bedroom, townspeople mourned her passing even as they feared the ascendance of the vice-mayor, Malcolm Tibbs.
Mayor Benson had been an enthusiastic supporter of the newcomer, and, indeed, he had been a different person when she decided to make him her running-mate. Something happened to change him, however, and the chill that pervaded his home seemed to emanate from within his very presence. Father Gunter and his partner, Robert Durling, had learned that something was amiss from Belinda Carstone, a reporter they had recently teamed up with during a supernatural battle in another small town. Belinda had dreamt about Clemson; a nightmare so compelling it led the two men, Belinda and her cameraman to start an investigation.
J.R. Pestel’s paranormal investigator novel, Night Mares, is a grand horror adventure that had me happily sitting safely at home rather than physically accompanying Gunter and Durling as they battled yet another very nasty and powerful demon. Pestel’s plot is ingenious and intricately plotted, and her characters just keep on getting more complex and interesting. I especially enjoyed the growing camaraderie exhibited by Gunter and Durling, as these two private men find common ground in their work. While this book does work quite well on its own, I’d recommend reading each of the books in this compelling supernatural series. Night Mares: A Father Gunter, Demon Hunter, Supernatural Thriller, Book 3 is most highly recommended.
