Sheri Humphreys has kicked off her new series with a real gem in Never a Viscount! A beautiful slow-burn romance sizzles between our heroine, Anne Albright, and Peter Jennett, Vicount Easterbrook, almost from the start. The only problem? Someone’s out to kill the Viscount, and lying about his identity feels like the only solution to protect himself while he heals from the latest attempt on his life. Anne’s skill as a nurse and compassion as a person slowly bring Peter back from the edge of death, but his secrets have the power to break the bond they’ve built. Beneath the quiet calm of a country village lay a decades-old scandal—and possible crime—that could cause a rift between the lovers that might never be mended.
The characters within the pages of Never a Viscount were brilliantly built with depth and dimension. Fans of historical romance will not be disappointed! The Viscount’s long recovery was expertly written by an author who knows her nursing. I was impressed repeatedly at how masterfully the medicine of the period was introduced without causing the book to feel heavy-handed. The mystery of finding the criminal behind Peter’s would-be murderer, as well as the search for the truth about a painful past within the small community of Buttermere, kept me glued to the pages. Anne possesses an assurance and quiet confidence that complements Peter’s firm and direct resolve perfectly. He’s the perfect gentleman, and readers will be rooting for him to win the lady’s hand. I can highly recommend Sheri Humphreys for a delightful romance with twists that keep you on the edge of your seat.
