My Soul Is From a Different Place: Poems by Cherie Burbach is a soulful collection of poems that covers diverse topics along with her distinctive voice on faith. The poet also shares her thoughts about the ups and downs of life. The metaphors behind the poems and her sentimentality are succinct and clear and the poet makes some interesting observations. Some of those expressions are kind of sad, difficult to express, and some are familiar feelings that readers can relate to very well. The faith and hope that echo in her poems will connect well with readers.
The poet has done a good job of keeping the words concise and clear. All the poems reflect on the credibility of the poet and her voice. I like the poems for the reason that they are not too wordy. The poet borders on the side of using minimal words while expressing her thoughts, which makes it effective. That also opens up the poems for multiple interpretations. The pacing, the punctuation and clarity have been combined well. 'I See God' is a simple poem, but profound and meaningful, while 'Each Time You Smile' is beautiful in its brevity and thought. Poetry lovers will enjoy this collection. The poems are profound and they give you a different perspective on life, love, loss, God, faith and hope. The poet conjures up images easily without any clichéd descriptions. Overall, it is a good book to read as the poems deal with relevant topics that will interest anyone.
