My Pulse, His Will by Jessica Lyngaas is an engaging story that explores the author’s journey through adversity to growing faith. The story begins with an encounter that lights a spark between the author and Lance and explores their relationship, family dynamics, and her pain. It is a tale that explores her brokenness, her hurt, and how she found the strength to accept herself, focus on nurturing her self-love and open her soul to receive a love far greater than herself. In the heart of the narrative is an exploration of the author’s journey towards true love and healing.
Poignant and filled with cultural and social commentaries, the story starts in the early 1990s. The reader is plunged into the world of the narrator and begins to understand the family dynamics, the author’s strong Christian faith, and the culture in which she was raised. The book explores themes of love, family, faith, and parenthood, but what I found most interesting is the author’s handling of the theme of inner freedom. We encounter someone who learns to love herself the hard way and whose connection with God becomes a liberating tool, allowing her to discover that she has the power to shape her destiny and to give meaning to her life. The narrative is fluid, composed in a style that is both simple and evocative. My Pulse, His Will is filled with meaningful lessons on love, family and faith; a memoir that is as inspiring as it is engaging.
