My Little Body Enchantment by Tara Russell was created for children and their caregivers to train and help kids develop and appreciate awareness of the body and emotions and to teach them mindfulness and meditation through a guided body scan. This technique starts with mindful breathing to calm the child down, followed by focussing on different parts of the body in sequence, starting from the toes and up through the limbs, torso, arms, and finally the head. On the way, the child is continuously asked about what she or he feels when instructed to focus on a particular part of the body. Recognizing your emotions and the accompanying bodily sensations is the first step in building mindfulness and a positive relationship with your body. The book features two adorable and whimsical characters, a boy wizard and a little fairy girl, who help demonstrate the technique. Artist Moran Reudor's full-page illustrations and spreads are skillfully done using vibrant pastel colors with detailed backgrounds that embrace the outdoors and nature. The text is presented in a handwritten style font that gives the work a more down-to-earth feel. With patience, practicing body awareness should result in the gradual improvement of a child's mind and body, helping her or him to be more active, healthier, and happier.
My Little Body Enchantment by Tara Russell tackles an important aspect of child development in the form of body awareness. As kids grow up, it's crucial to support this awareness and the development of a positive relationship with their bodies. The book helps them develop motor skills that can improve coordination, movement, and posture. Increased body awareness also makes children less clumsy and easier for them to imitate movements. Realizing that you can have a good sense of control over your body is important when it comes to forming your personality as a young person. It also gives the child a chance to develop much-needed confidence, self-esteem, and well-being that helps them tap into their full potential and abilities once they become mindful of their body and emotions. Highly recommended for preschoolers, playgroups, and feisty children. It is suggested that parents and caregivers consult with a doctor or professional before starting body awareness training with children who have special conditions or disabilities.
