My Kingdom, Your Heaven by Scott C. Davis is a fantasy novel that would appeal most to a diverse audience of young adults and adults who enjoy fast paced mystery/fantasy novels. The book takes place during the time period of the American Civil War and follows Gabriel as he searches for the reasons his son’s life was taken. On his quest for answers, Gabriel chooses to fight in the Civil War, in the hope of increasing his chances of getting into heaven in order to find answers there. However, his selfless actions draw the attention of the Angel of the North, who has become upset at the number of souls gaining entry into his kingdom. Will the Angel of the North’s plan help Gabriel to get his answers, or will Gabriel have to take matters into his own hands?
My Kingdom, Your Heaven by Scott C. Davis had an interesting cover that hinted at elements of fantasy, mystery, and horror, which drew me right to the book and into its pages. I found the story reminded me a lot of the TV show Supernatural with the mix of supernatural and non supernatural characters. I quickly came to care about Gabriel and his quest to find answers about his son’s death, and his plight kept me enthralled from the first page to the very last page. I was actually rather disappointed with getting to the last page as I did not want the book to end and I hope the author decides to write a follow up!
