All mothers play a special role. Dog mothers, cat mothers, chicken mothers, duck mothers – the entire animal kingdom is full of mothers who care for their loved ones. In Serena Lane Ferrari's My Home Is You, human mothers also create a loving bond with their young ones. It makes little ones feel safe and loved, secure in the knowledge that being with their mother means being home. A mother sheep and her lamb is “A tale of love, it’s sweet and bright.” And as the Momma Sheep watches her little one, the mother and child “share a bond, a cozy room.” It seems too simple to be true, but mothers are the safe space that little ones crave until they are mature enough to venture out into the world.

Serena Lane Ferrari's picture book, My Home Is You: A Tale of a Mother’s Unconditional Love, is a sweet, tender story about all kinds of mothers and their offspring. Told in rhyming verse, this cheery little treasure will warm the hearts of youngsters as their mothers share a special time, cuddling them, and reading to them. Like Robert Munsch’s Love You Forever, this story resonates with the timeless and enduring love of a parent for their child. The language is simple so young readers can easily follow along. At the end, there’s a page to color, showing a mother cat with her kitten. Each animal mother and her offspring is introduced with something unique to that animal, like a mother dog and her puppy, “sharing love in every wag.” Readers young and old will love this story.

In My Home Is You: A Tale of a Mother's Unconditional Love by Serena Lane Ferrari, we are introduced to a variety of animals and how much a mother loves their child. The puppies are never worried because their mother is always nearby, and their world is full of zigzags and tail wags. We then go to cats and how momma cats show affection to their kittens by grooming and cuddling with their babies; then pigs who sniff around for treats with their young piglets. From ducks to bunnies and even lambs and chickens, we see how much a baby needs their mother. After seeing many more animal moms and their children, we come to humans with a mother who reads her child a bedtime story, always remembering to let them know that she loves them dearly.

This is such a heartfelt book that makes you happy. No matter what the species, a mother’s love is strong and true. Serena Lane Ferrari has done an amazing job of creating such a beautiful story to share with your child. It’s always important for children to know that they are loved and this book is just another way to show them how much. Giorgia Vallicelli’s illustrations are simply gorgeous. They are colorful and fit perfectly with the storyline, which I feel will make it easier to keep a child’s focus. Overall, I feel this book will be a hit among mothers. I am very interested in seeing more of Ferrari’s work and look forward to reading more of her books in the future.
