"Vroom, vroom, vroom," all young truck lovers get ready for a new favorite title. D. A. Batrowny has added another title to his Early Ed Series. My First Truck Book (My First Book Series 7) focuses on trucks, buses, and construction equipment. Each double-page spread includes a full-color picture of a truck, followed by a page that identifies the name of the vehicle. The photographs usually show the vehicle in action, for instance, the Monster Truck is pictured covered in mud and driving through a muddy bog. Most of the vehicles pictured will be familiar to many children. There are some fun entries, like a double-decker bus, that kids may not have been exposed to yet.
As a former children's librarian, I know how popular trucks and construction equipment are with young children. My First Truck Book is the perfect choice both in content and design. Young kids love to identify things. D. A. Batrowny has included all sorts of fun and interesting vehicles. I am impressed with the photographs which show all the machines in action. This encourages kids to name the trucks and see what they are designed to do. I found the Fire Tank Truck picture especially interesting and vivid. My favorite photo is the one at the end, which perfectly captures the joy that vehicles bring to children. The text is bold and clear, making this an excellent choice for beginning readers. This book will build a child's vocabulary, especially those who love things that move.
