When Jade agreed to host her long time friend and teaching colleague, Gwendolyn, for a couple of days in her home, she was looking forward to a reunion of sorts. The two had taught together; Gwendolyn’s specialty being religious studies. The Gwendolyn who appeared on Jade’s doorstep, however, was no longer a religious studies professor, but rather a psychic. And she had her assistant, little mouse-like Wendy, with her ... along with a vicious Siamese cat and loads of luggage. That’s not all. Gwendolyn was planning to take over Jade’s house with séances and readings. And she expected Jade to provide healthy, vegan meals. If that wasn’t enough of a nightmare, the first séance’s revelation that someone in the community would die escalated into a murder investigation with ominous threats to both Gwendolyn and Jade. The police were suspicious, believing that Gwendolyn was the murderer.
Jade, part-time sleuth and full time blogger, is at it again. She wants to set the record straight and clear her friend’s name. But at the risk of what? Her own life? Gilian Baker’s mystery novel, Murder Over Medium: Book 3 in the Jade Blackwell Mystery Series, is packed with fast paced action, unraveling mysteries, good friendships and a touch of humor. The characters are well presented and developed to the point where the reader feels they are making friends, especially with Jade, and helping out with the mystery. The many twists and turns leave the reader guessing right to the end, just as Jade unravels the mystery piece by piece. This is a great read for mystery buffs. I wonder what Jade will be up to next.
