Murder at Stonehenge: A Daniel “Hawk” Fishinghawk Mystery by Gary D Conrad is a delectable tale of murder and mystery featuring the intrepid detective Daniel “Hawk” Fishinghawk as he accepts an invitation from Scotland Yard to investigate murders at Stonehenge and Salisbury. But his reputation is about to be shaken by a powerful phenomenon as dark forces draw nigh.
The first thing that caught my attention when I started reading this novel is the author’s sense of character and setting. Hawk is a former NYPD detective who now runs his own private investigation agency. The author provides backstory in a very skillful way, not letting readers get distracted by it. The story introduces the spiritual theme right from the very start of the narrative, with an unusual experience of the shaman, Tiare Rapu. It begins with a ritual and this sets the tone for the mystery that permeates the story. The setting is well-developed and the author offers readers vivid images of places and things that enhance the setting.
The story has strong spiritual depths and a climax that will blow the minds of readers. The descriptions are terrific and they reflect the peculiar way in which the protagonist sees things, people, and the world around him. Gary D Conrad deftly uses suspense and humor to sustain the interest of the reader, making it hard to put this book down. Murder at Stonehenge is written in great prose and features compelling plot points and memorable characters. A real page-turner!
