In a great introduction to a new cozy mystery series, author Christa Nardi’s Murder at Cold Creek College takes us into the world of Cold Creek College, a place where nothing is quite as it seems on the surface. We’re also introduced to protagonist Dr. Sheridan Hendley, a professor of psychology and eventual amateur sleuth. When Dr. Adam Millberg, Sheridan’s colleague and campus Lothario, is found murdered on campus, and one of Sheridan’s dearest friends is implicated as a suspect, Sheridan finds herself being drawn into the investigation, prepared to do anything to clear her friend’s name. Working with the intriguing Detective Brett McMann to solve the murder, Sheridan soon realizes that she has to work fast, or she might not just be hunting the murderer, she might become the next victim.
I very much enjoyed this book. It was a fun romp, well-paced and suspenseful, with just the right amount of humor, romance and intrigue thrown in. Author Christa Nardi is very skilled at developing engaging characters, and this cannot be demonstrated more clearly than in Dr. Sheridan Hendley. Sheridan is interesting, likable and beguiling, and a great protagonist for what appears to be a very promising new series. The inner workings of college life, from the faults and foibles of each of Sheridan’s colleagues, added a great deal of humor and realism to the setting, and it was clear that author Nardi was very comfortable in describing the setting. Murder at Cold Creek College would appeal to any reader who enjoys mysteries with a dash of romance, suspenseful reads, and an occasional laugh throughout. I am very much looking forward to the next installment of this series, and certainly hope that Christa Nardi is hard at work on just that.
