Murder Across the Street by Alisa Schindler tells the story of Molly Davis, a suburban housewife who doubts her ability to be a good wife and mum, and also has a reputation for having a very active imagination. When her neighbour across the street seems, to all intents and purposes, to have disappeared, Molly’s imagination kicks in and she sets out to investigate. Juggling a hectic life of schools, kids' activities, and a marriage, Molly has to use all her wits to find enough time to put her detective skills to the test. Unwittingly, she uncovers a mystery and criminal activity that completely surprises her and nearly costs her life.
This is a great mystery where the author’s clear sense of humour comes across in her writing. The pace is fast with lots of twists and turns and surprises. Molly is believable and likeable, even though her imagination might be a little out of control. The strong and dependable husband, James, is endearing and the other characters are well developed and plausible. This was a really enjoyable read and the author, Alisa Schindler, has a great talent for enthralling writing. I think the character of Molly could go on to be a star in her own right. I think the author has stirred in her readers a curiosity about their neighbours and friends they didn’t realise they had. Nice writing, lots of tension, and a desire to read more of this writer’s work. A really compelling and fun read.
