Morwitch: Breaking the Rules by Jennifer Redmile is a YA urban fantasy story. There’s nothing special about Ellie. She just wants to finish school and get on with life. And then a family secret comes to light and Ellie finds out she is half mortal, half witch. Jayce Rawthorn is far from normal. He’s a dragon shifter, learning the ways of the mortal world while he finishes school. When Jayce and Ellie meet, sparks fly, initiating a bond that has long existed between witches and their familiars. When they find out the magical realm forbids their bond, they go on the run. As they escape from their hunters, they learn of a plan to destroy the only place where they are accepted – the mortal world. Can they save it from destruction? Will they ever be able to have a life together? Or will they forever be hunted to the death?

Wow! Morwitch: Breaking the Rules by Jennifer Redmile is an amazing story. The first page grabs you and doesn’t let go; you’ll struggle to put this book down. The characters are wonderfully well-developed and incredibly likable and, although it is a fantasy story, they feel real and believable. The plot is unique, which is refreshing in a genre where finding new storylines seems almost impossible, and although it is dark in places, the romantic aspect sweetens the deal. Jennifer Redmile clearly has a vivid imagination, and her writing style makes for compelling reading. It is a slow starter, but the first few chapters set the scene for what’s to come - a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions. If you love magical stories, this has it in spades, in more ways than one, and I really hope there is going to be a sequel.
