Sharon Brandon was born in Virginia and is the mother of three adult children. Her passion from the time she was able centers around reading and creative writing. Sharon now lives in North Carolina and is continuing her literary passions.
I had the pleasure of living with a Native American family for four years discovering their customs and passions for life. While there I interacted with the younger children as well as the young at heart. It was during one such occasion that this book came to life. Lil’ Mary Locklear came into the living room and tried to leap on to the loveseat. She missed. She was about to cry and through her tears she exclaimed, “I fell down”. In response I said, “Mommy I Hurt My Rump-A-Doodle” attempting to ward off her tearing. I did not know how successful this would be. She was laughing and crying at the same time. I made several more exclamations ending them with “Mommy I Hurt My Rump-A-Doodle”. Soon she forgot about her fall and I realized this might be something worth capturing. I jotted the things down and put them away for over a year. One morning I got up and the book was born.
It is my hope that schools will integrate this book within the curriculum and that young readers will become young authors and embrace learning with a mixture of creativity and analytical thinking.

Mommy: I Hurt My Rump-A-Doodle by Sharon Brandon is an educational book for small children. Divided into four sections, the book is intended to develop close and attentive reading skills that help children enjoy and understand literature better, actively seek that which builds knowledge, enlarges experience, and broadens worldviews, and increases performance in critical reading necessary to absorb the large amount of information available in print and digitally. The first section has information on how to read and study, the second section encourages students to participate by drawing out what the captions state, the third section shows the students adding pictures to the captions, and the fourth and final section has students writing their own story and drawing their own pictures. The book is an excellent tool for all small children to develop their reading, writing, listening, speaking, and comprehension skills.
I found the book informative and useful to all students as it helps them to grow and develop their thinking and creativity at many levels. The illustrations are adorable and they will put a smile on the faces of young readers. It is definitely a must-have in school and children’s libraries because of its educational content, and parents can include it in their child’s personal collection of books at home. It is a fun read and the activities and interactive session in the book will teach children new things and help them enhance their vocabulary. More books like this need to be written for children to enable their growth and development during the initial years.
