Brendon Charles Bertram was born on May 28, 1994. Working on the family farm on PEI, it wasn’t until March 27, 2015, after the death of his father that he began pursuing writing. He continues to live on PEI, but now occupies his time with travelling the globe, reading texts on philosophy and psychology, and exploring a deep fascination and passion for storytelling.

Moira Ashe: Enemy Within by Brendon Bertram is the first installment in a series about a special werewolf hunter. Lincoln, one of the two protagonists, volunteered to find a werewolf hunter who'd be willing to teach him how to hunt the beings that are now starting to infest his own homeland. His travels are quite fruitless as all hunters deny his request - until he finds Moira in a dark tavern. She grudgingly agrees to help him, even allows him to shadow her during her current mission. When Moira fails to kill the most recent werewolf threat, she needs to use her secret weapon, but does not involve Lincoln in this. She does not take Lincoln's curiosity into account though, and Lincoln witnesses something that changes his life forever. Whether Moira's special secret will help Lincoln or cause him tremendous problems is something you'll have to find out yourself.
I would have enjoyed Moira Ashe by Brendon Bertram a bit more if it had been part of a boxed set of all novellas in the series, but that's just me. I like long books. I went for this novella anyway, because I felt the characters might be interesting enough. And they were. Lincoln is some kind of dork - but in a fantasy setting - and it's hard not to like him even though he's a bit silly sometimes! Moira, on the other hand, is the mysterious, strong, independent female warrior with a dark secret. She can make tough decisions and do what needs to be done even though it is often not pleasant. Two different worlds collide when those two meet, and it's not easy, especially when Lincoln doesn't quite know which way to go and whether his conscience is telling him the right thing. I also liked that the author managed to give readers some background information about the world in which the story takes place. It's nothing in detail, but it makes you want to know more. While I did not find any of the plot surprising, I enjoyed reading this novella in one sitting. It has a fairly good writing style and engages you through the characters.
