Mirror of Wolves by N.P. Thompson is the second book in the Arcanium series. Ty’s struggling to understand what his destiny as the Chosen One entails but he wonders if he’s truly capable of stopping the emperor’s deadly plans. He’s determined to excel at his magical training under a powerful sorcerer named Quinn and use his powers to finally get justice for his mother. When he discovers the existence of the Mirror, an object infused with incredible power to tell him his destiny, Ty is willing to embark on a dangerous quest to learn the truth. With the help of his new friends, he treks through the Dark Forest and encounters various dangers including a dragon, gnomes, monsters, and even werewolves, but no matter the risk, Ty and his friends are determined to find the Mirror.
The plot revolves around the prophecy that everyone believes is about Ty, which leads to their search for the Mirror. This creates the perfect layout for an epic quest for Ty and his friends which N.P. Thompson delivers with a style reminiscent of legends such as King Arthur or Hercules. The format has a straightforward goal and several dangerous obstacles to overcome to reach this goal. The adventure reveals more of the world such as a dragon, phosphorescent moss, gnomes, octopus-like creatures with shark-like teeth, werewolves, and poisonous slime. The world-building continues to be stunning with locations that round out the world with places such as Nashoba River, River of Tears, Dark Forest, Poison Jungle, and the Forest of Indrae. In the first book, Ty had only one friend, a crow, and now he has a group of friends that are willing to go with him into danger to find answers. They give him a support system and in turn he helps them in the fight against the emperor. The different perspectives provide various voices by switching between the characters. Mirror of Wolves is an epic adventure that will keep readers entertained with humor, friendship, monsters, and magic.
