Born in a mirage, her adoptive parents, a miner and his wife, never fully comprehend the powers Faye possesses. Faye is a mirror child; she’s half mortal and half fairy. The Fairy King created her and others, endowing them with magic. Their purpose is to save Earth from darkness as humans mine the gold that really belongs to the fairies. There’s danger afoot as the young girl grows up and follows her destiny. Will Faye be able to find her way and adjust to her developing powers? Or will she be trapped in a world of darkness and disappear forever?
Tamra Andrews’ novel, Mirror Child: The Woolgatherer, is the first book in a fascinating fantasy series that pits the powers of the faeries against the destructive nature of humans, all while other evil forces threaten to prevail. The plot is intense and well developed, attracting the reader’s interest right from the beginning. It starts like the telling of an old legend and follows the young mirror child as she grows up in the comfort of her adoptive parents’ home. The descriptive narrative is well constructed and makes the reader feel part of the setting; the dialogue is timely and believable. Overall, this is a compelling story that will have young readers looking forward to the next book in the series.
