Miranda Nights by Gail Ward Olmsted reveals that Miranda’s life is perfect, with a loving husband and a flourishing career. Everything takes a dark turn, however, when a listener starts taking things too far while pretending that he wants to save her soul. The listener began cordially until he realized he could not get through to Miranda. To add to this threat, Miranda’s best friend’s son is arrested. Miranda jumps in to help, but the evidence against him is overwhelming. Miranda put her friend in touch with trusted professionals to assist her friend's son and remained willing to step in whenever needed. Miranda feels her happily ever after existence is shattered when a family member is given a troubling medical diagnosis. Miranda’s situation escalates from threatening messages on social media to break-ins and arson when the listener starts harassing her.

Miranda Nights by Gail Ward Olmsted is engaging and complex. It was a roller coaster ride of suspense and unexpected twists and turns. It was fast-paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. The plot was thrilling and unpredictable, and it kept me guessing. I could not put this page-turner down. I was intrigued from the start. The characters were well-developed. Miranda is kind-hearted and is always there for those who need her. Miranda’s husband Eric is a lot of fun, and they complement each other. They communicate well and can resolve their issues. The story is brilliantly written, and the suspenseful moments were balanced with lighter events. This story will stay with me for a long time.

In Miranda Nights by Gail Ward Olmsted, the second book in the series, attorney Miranda Quinn hosts a radio show, Miranda Nights. She goes on the air from her home studio, lovingly built by her architect husband, Eric. One day, Miranda's best friend, Tracey, asks her to help. Her sixteen-year-old son, Chase, got into big trouble with the law because of the provocative selfies with his girlfriend, Chloe, who is still considered a minor. As if it were not enough to spoil Miranda's well-organized life, a mysterious stalker started to harass her in every way possible, from disturbing phone calls to her show to threatening her beloved cat. He calls himself Dante and accuses Miranda of seven deadly sins, claiming that only he can save her from eternal damnation.

This is a breathtaking read for fans of thriller, suspense, and mystery novels centered around a female protagonist. Gail Ward Olmsted keeps a light, even humorous, tone despite the dramatic events she describes. Such an approach makes the book a very compelling and easy read. I liked the very well-researched background regarding the legal field, terms, and aspects of Miranda's work. Miranda is an appealing character. She values friendship, has an amazing relationship with Eric, and unconditionally loves her cat, Hobie. Gail narrates Miranda Nights from the main character's perspective, and Miranda's self-irony and humorous view of life is contagious. The book is fast-paced, and the plot has many unexpected and fascinating twists. Miranda Nights tells us how to handle a difficult situation with a problematic teen and warns against self-righteousness.

Miranda Quinn has it all. A former District Attorney, she now hosts a radio call-in program two nights a week providing legal information. She has a handsome, sexy husband, an architect who gave up a junior partnership to start his own business so they could live in the small town Miranda wanted. In Miranda Nights by Gail Ward Olmsted, we meet Miranda who has, in addition to all that, a best friend whose 16-year-old son was arrested for being a sexual predator, and whose other 16-year-old son (they’re twins) is about to come out as gay, a great stepmother who’s been hiding her health problems from her family, and now, a stalker. This stalker calls in to her program to tell her to stop living her sinful life. Then he vandalizes her car and breaks into her house. Just how far will he go?

This book is definitely worth reading. This book has everything you could want in a story: suspense, drama, and yes, even comedy. In Miranda Nights, Gail Ward Olmsted has given us believable characters who we can really care about. Her descriptions of people and situations are vivid, helping to maintain the reader's interest in the story. It’s not surprising that Ms. Olmsted was a college professor. Her writing is extremely clear and crisp, making it easy to read and follow. This book would make a worthy gift for the reader in your life, and also for yourself. I highly recommend it.
