Message from Hermes by C.B. Liverpool tells the enchanting story of twelve-year-old Vanessa. As she is on her way home, a shiny, bronze helmet with wings falls from the sky. The helmet glows and emits soft music. Vanessa's friend Jen tells her that a man dressed in robes fell from the sky and landed in the village golf course lake. The man survives, and Vanessa decides to visit him in hospital. He is extremely grateful when Vanessa hands over his helmet and tells her his name is Hermes, the messenger of the gods. Hermes warns Vanessa that there could be destruction very soon in our world. Due to his injuries, Hermes is unable to fulfill his mission. Vanessa must wear the headpiece, take a scroll and the wings from his shoes, and tell Zeus that Medea, the sorceress, is angry with the gods for how her life has turned out. Medea has revived all the monsters that have been sleeping or were previously killed so that they can make her the new ruler. On her way to Mount Olympus, Vanessa meets all the mythological gods who help her complete her mission.

Message from Hermes is such a lovely story with beautiful pictures. While the book may be intended for children, it is suitable for readers of any age who are interested in Greek mythology. The story is exciting and fast-paced as Vanessa moves from place to place and has to overcome many interesting obstacles along the way. I mostly enjoyed getting to know the various characters and mythological gods through the vivid way C.B. Liverpool describes them. The plot is easy to follow, and there are some exciting twists and turns along the way. Message from Hermes was a delightful book, and I've learned something about Greek mythology.
