Based near the beautiful and historic village of West Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, Tony's large family was no doubt the catalyst for his voyage into writing his own children's books.
His debut title 'Merren and the Heron' was inspired by a trip to London's Regents Park where his young daughter became fascinated by an incredibly brave bird almost joining her on a park bench to dutifully pose for the camera.
Tony is looking forward to adding further books to the Daft Dad stable in due course.

In Merren and the Heron by Tony Dow, a class of children is visiting the zoo. Their task is to take a photo of an animal that sounds like their name. The only problem is that they were having trouble finding the animals. Ryan’s lion was camouflaged and he couldn’t see it while Amanda’s panda decided to stay up in the tree. Peter and Anita’s cheetah was too fast to snap a photo and Jake was horrified by snakes. It was getting late and none of the kids had any luck taking photos of their animal. The teacher soon forgot about the assignment because Merren went missing. Mark suggested that she got eaten by a shark while Myrtle corrected him by saying there were no sharks in the pool, only turtles. The teacher put the kids in groups to find the missing child. Jake was the one who found the excited girl. She had won the contest by getting a picture with a heron!
I think Tony Dow has done a wonderful job with Merren and the Herron. It’s an adorable story that takes place in a zoo and teachers and children can have fun finding the names of the animals that are found there. On top of educating kids on that, there is also an adventure playing out as the class searches for their animals in hopes of getting a photo to win the contest. All the while, little Merren has had more luck than the rest of them. The illustrations are also very beautiful and complement the story perfectly. It’s definitely a book I would recommend others to read.
