“This book is a compilation of poetry that I have written throughout the years as I was introduced to pain, was married to pain, divorced pain, and remarried a few years later . . . It is not easy to live with pain, but it is possible. I hope, through these words, someone’s heart will be touched and turned towards the light . . . because in a world where art screams, Mentality Listens.”
In this collection of brilliant poetry the author shares her inmost heart. Her pain-filled cries to a God she knows is there through the times she finds herself drawn back in to relationships and feelings that move her away from a place of safety, from the God who has sealed her to himself. Perez has selected poems that take the reader through betrayal, sorrow and an unspeakable comfort as she is pulled from and through what most troubles the soul. In her words are not only brutality and sin, but love and forgiveness. Through chronic pain Perez reaches out to God, as all of us do, over and over and over again, yet always knowing that He is there, He loves us still, and in the midst of our pain and alienation, He loves us, lifts us and helps us bear our pain and find ways through it to help others and to speak the unspeakable in ways that give us hope.
Perez is a former marine and a disabled veteran. She lives in, through and beyond her chronic pain, in ways that will bring you to your knees.
