Megan's Pet Sitting Adventure: Megan's World, Volume 2 is a novel about pets and pet care for children and preteens written by Pamela Foland. While this is the second book in the Megan’s World series, this book can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone novel. Megan was finding that caring for her four kittens was more expensive than she had originally thought. In the four weeks since she found the tiny infants and began fostering them, she learned about the challenges of frequent feedings and the expense of healthy food and kitty litter, and she was saving up for having them spayed or neutered. Megan confided in her friend, Jill, that she worried about what would happen when her allowance and savings were all used up. Jill suggested baby sitting as a source of income, but Megan thought that pet sitting definitely would be more interesting and fun. Jill knew that Mrs. Driscoll, a local librarian, used pet sitters when she went away. First, Megan would check with her parents, and, if they approved, she’d begin her first real business venture.
Pamela Foland’s novel about pets and pet care for children and preteens, Megan's Pet Sitting Adventure: Megan's World, Volume 2, is an entertaining and often humorous story about Megan and Jill’s first pet sitting job. Foland’s story details the responsibilities involved in pet ownership as well as those additional duties assumed when caring for other people's animals. One important issue she raises is that pets may act differently with their sitters when their human families are away. Another is the importance for children and preteens who baby sit and pet sit to keep open communications with their family and their clients whenever unusual situations arise. As someone whose first pet sitting adventure was caring for a neighbor’s gigantic St. Bernard, I could feel for Megan and Jill as they navigated muddy footprints, a snappy parrot and a cat who found infinitely clever hiding places. I loved seeing how the two of them accept the challenges and responsibilities that pet sitting entail, and think this book will be an eye-opener for kids looking to start their own businesses. Megan's Pet Sitting Adventure: Megan's World, Volume 2 is most highly recommended.
