Mediterranean Mothers: Masters of Guilt is an amusing memoir co-authored by Maria Orlando and Nick Pappas. It explores the unique relationship between Mediterranean mothers and their children. Written in a lighthearted and humorous tone, the authors draw from personal anecdotes to reveal the various social norms, cultural traditions, and psychological dynamics that shape this relationship. Maria and Nick, both teachers, set out to write a book about teaching together but ended up writing stories about their respective mothers and aunts. The book follows two sets of widowed sisters, Liz and Marie from Sicily, and Marica and Mable from Greece, who end up on the same flight and become instant friends. What follows is a series of humorous events as these Mediterranean mothers conspire to instill a sense of guilt, responsibility, and duty in their children. Ultimately, the four end up in front of a TV audience as special guests on the riotous It's Never Too Late show.
