W.T. Kosmos is the humorist author of the award-winning Blaze Union and the Puddin’ Head Schools and the upcoming series, Maya and Waggers. He is the alter ego (pen name) of a life-long educator who has had the great privilege and joy of serving as a teacher and school principal. W.T. For many generations, those who lived on the Puddin’ Head and Sweetie Islands existed without dogs and because of this, no one on either island had ever seen or knew how to take care of a dog. Everything changed one day when a shipload of dogs was ordered from the United States and landed on Puddin’ Head Island. The mayhem that strained the relationships between the Puddin’ Head and the Sweetie islanders for generations would be tested like never before when Maya (a Puddin’ Head) gets her new puppy, Waggers. Maya and Waggers: I Have to Scoop What? by W.T. Kosmos teaches children about what happens when a desire turns into a grave responsibility. When Maya, her best friend, Lily (a Sweetie), and Maya’s dog, Waggers, visit her Uncle Kal, they discover several challenges that come with having a dog, which includes cleaning up smelly dog poop.
Children will not only laugh and enjoy reading Maya and Waggers: I Have to Scoop What? by W.T. Kosmos but will learn a lot about responsibility, making connections, having fun, and choices. Maya’s Uncle Kal loves his lawn and they made an agreement that it must stay clean at all costs. So Maya and Lily must think of other ways to avoid cleaning up after Waggers and to keep their promise to Uncle Kal. For the next few days, the girls go on an adventure throughout the neighborhood where they not only have fun and meet other people and animals but they learn about how differences can coexist in harmony, being accountable, and what it means to grow up. Ironically, they finally discover that scooping poop isn’t a bad thing after all. Get a copy of this book to add to your child’s library. Highly recommended.
