Marriage God's Way: A Biblical Recipe for Healthy, Joyful, Christ-Centered Relationships by Scott LaPierre is a book that encourages developing a marriage according to the Word of God. The book tackles and reveals questions and answers about marriage. The author has skillfully added the proper biblical scriptures to build a solid foundation.

One thing I enjoy is when an author backs up their teachings with the Word of God. Outside of the Bible, most teachings are from experience or obtained knowledge through studies. While both of these concepts can equate to sound doctrine, there is nothing more profound than the Word of God when dealing with such a controversial topic. The book reads more like a comprehensive Bible study. This is not a bad thing at all. The author uses practical examples as Jesus did with the parables to help readers see what he is talking about instead of only reading. Every aspect of building a healthy marriage is covered in this book. The biblical knowledge of the author is consistent and deliberate. When a book such as this is created, it's wise to stay within the confines of the Bible.

The author uses several examples to open up our minds as we receive the message echoing throughout this book. It leaves no room for unanswered questions. I can see this book being taught at seminars around the world. The author's knowledge of the topic is comprehensive without condemning those who may have faltered from God's way. I recommend this book to anyone thinking about getting married according to the Bible. The wisdom within the pages of this book will even help those who are not of the Christian faith.

Pastor Scott beautifully writes about the Biblical view of marriage, saying that God has placed the man as the head/spiritual leader and that the wife is to be submissive to that leadership. But, this book is far different from other books with the same message.

Pastor Scott expounds on the message of Biblical roles by referencing Scripture and giving the literal meaning behind the words in the original language. For example, he discusses the differences between agape and phileo love, shows references in Scripture to these types of love, and helps spouses understand how to apply the Scriptural concepts to their spouse. Drawing on research from Dr. Eggerichs (Love and Respect), he teaches practical ways for husbands to love their wives and for wives to respect their husbands.

As a wife, what I loved most about Pastor Scott's book, is his ability to speak about submission in a way that doesn't feel "less than" in the marriage. He even points out that the word used for wives as "helpers" is the same word used to describe the Holy Spirit's role in helping Christians. What a beautiful way to capture God's unique design for both husband and wife. Husbands can be encouraged by this book as well, because Pastor Scott helps husbands understand how to lead in a way that will honor God and help their wives feel loved.

Read this book! You're sure to get some insight and encouragement from it.

It was amazing!
Scott has captured the best way to do marriage: God’s way. An excellent book for Christian couples that want to cooperatively increase the muscle mass of their marriage. The subject matter is deeply researched and presented in a thoughtful and theological format. Some verses I’ve read hundreds of times and Scott brought fresh new light to them. Lot’s to learn here, a definite “twice read.”

I think this is the best book on marriage I have ever read, and I’ve read a ton of them. You have solid doctrine along with real examples, even you from your own marriage. You ask the hard questions that bring conviction even to me. This is dynamite! Thank you for going beyond the basics and answering questions that people really ask about marriage. I hope it gets into the hands of many thousands of couples. I believe it will be a tremendous blessing.

Christian marriages fail at an astonishing rate. Couples enter into their marriage covenant with little preparation or with much unaddressed sin. This brings shame to the name of Jesus, therefore, it is crucial to equip young adults in the realities of marriage. LaPierre’s succinct book places the responsibility squarely on the shoulders of Christians. Stop the blaming and start reclaiming. “Marriage God’s Way” is serious reading that delivers hard-hitting biblical commentary. He provides a multitude of questions to get the conversation going and practical advice to put couples on the right track. This book is ideal for Christian teens, young adults preparing for ministry, and of course, couples of all kinds. LaPierre’s book is stimulating, thought-provoking, encouraging, and theologically sound.

If you think that you have exhausted what the Bible has to say about marriage: think again and read this book.
Scott LaPierre has a way of applying familiar Scripture passages with solid theology, but radical and rare clarity and depth. Passages that I have heard dozens of sermons on I suddenly saw in a new light. In addition, the author is not afraid of standing by Biblical truths, even when those truths are counter-cultural.
The practical, personal stories from the author's own experiences, conversational tone, and well-organized chapters kept me reading, but the application and spiritual truths are what will truly stick with me.

Very good book, it clearly demonstrates what the Bible says about marriage. Easy to read with profoundly simple ideas, Marriage God's Way is a book anyone doing Christian Counseling should read. Pastor Scott quotes the Bible but also explains it in a way that is easy to understand. Part of his explanation of 1 Peter 3:1 is "husbands seem to struggle with stubbornness even more when they feel they are being nagged, and wives seem to struggle with nagging even more when they feel their husbands are being stubborn."

I loved the part about submission where he says "submission means a wife sees herself as a part of her husband's team", I also appreciated the emphasis on that the Bible says a woman is only supposed to submit to her own husband, not all men.

My favorite quote "A husband's love and a wife's submission is not a test of their obedience to their spouse. It is a test of their obedience to the Lord."

This is a great book for anyone that wants to understand what the Bible says about Marriage. But it also clearly points out why what the Bible says actually works!

"Marriage God's Way" is a must read for veteran married couples and newlyweds alike. Pastor Scott handles a myriad of important but touchy issues with sensitivity and love without ever compromising the truth of God's Word.

From cover to cover, "Marriage God's Way" is both encouraging and convicting for husbands and wives. Pastor Scott begins by drawing a correlation between our marriages and our relationship with Christ. With this as a foundation, he proceeds to cover the essential elements of a Godly marriage: headship and leadership, submitting and helping, love and respect. Pastor Scott guides the reader through clear and concise word studies (easy to read!) of these fundamental truths, and he draws out and illustrates the lessons using examples from years of marital counseling. He highlights the practical effects when walking in disobedience/obedience to these principles. Too often, when we read marriage books we focus on what our spouse should be doing. Pastor Scott skillfully keeps us focused on what Christ has done for us and how that should affect our interactions with our spouse. The final chapters discuss obedience. It is all well and good to understand and know the commands regarding marriage, it is quite another to obey them. This book WILL challenge you in marriage, but it will also strengthen and grow your marriage, leading you to a deeper understanding of God's vision for marriage and how you can achieve it.

I highly recommend this book for church libraries, marriage counselors, small group bible studies (men, women, or couples) and even young adults, as well as anyone who is in any stage of marriage or marital preparation. I suggest buying multiple copies to give out as the Lord leads. I believe this to be an invaluable resource for mature Christians, new believers, and those who are seeking to know God's plan for marriage. I consider "Marriage God's Way" by Pastor Scott LaPierre to be on par with "Love & Respect" by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs or "The Meaning of Marriage" by Tim Keller.

Scott has put in a lot of time researching the scriptures about the roles of husband and wife. He has done a great job of explaining the scriptures that he shares. I like the clear picture he paints about agape love, and how that is the type of love that a husband should have for his spouse. I also like how he talks about how a wife should respect her husband and how that can look different to each couple. He did a good job on writing this.

The other thing that meant a lot to me was how he gave examples of practical ways to respect your husband, and for husbands to love their wives.
