Mariposa Oracle: Queen City Licensed Massage Therapist by Trisha Barry is a humorously told story that follows a massage therapist and the situations she gets herself into. I was immediately pulled in with the terrific descriptions, especially when she arrives at her client’s door, pulls the door slightly open and peers inside: “I saw my client butt naked, face down, lying on top of the sheets… like he was a present.” Mariposa Oracle has been laid off from her job as an online producer. She has only one option: use her massage license to earn her living. Plunging into the business, she buys a massage business in Queen City at a time when the state is implementing regulations on massage businesses. As someone who has never given a professional massage before, she learns in the trade, experiences stress and crisis, but does she have what it takes to thrive?
Mariposa Oracle presents real-life situations and the realities of the massage business from a perspective that is fresh and captivating. The humor fills the pages and the author brings to life characters that readers will enjoy following. Readers will learn the stereotypical beliefs about massage therapists. For instance, many people think that massage therapists provide sex as an incentive to the trade and the conversation between Mariposa and her friends on the subject is intriguing and unsettling for her. Readers will follow one woman’s journey to find her place in a business that is completely new to her while learning about the complex world she navigates. It is gripping and entertaining, told in a strong first-person narrative voice sharpened by humor. Mariposa Oracle: Queen City Licensed Massage Therapist is a tale of grit and determination to succeed, especially when times are harsh and challenging. You will laugh through the entire story and then learn.
