"Mandy's Heart" by Monica Stout is a cute story for young children about five wild baby kittens and their mother. They live in the bushes next to a human family, who decide one day to begin feeding them. Little by little, the kittens overcome their fear and begin to eat the cat food put out for them on the front porch.
Realizing that they are wild, the humans decide to begin taming them. The mother cat and her kittens are all taken to a veterinarian for shots and exams. And the mother cat is also neutered at the same time. This process takes some time, but eventually it all works out for them.
Meanwhile, the house cat, Princess Rae, is not at all happy with the new addition to the household. In the beginning, she is mean and spiteful, wishing the new kittens ill will. As time goes by, all things change for the better.
The story helps families deal with the issue of stray cats, as well as the importance of neutering. The story helps young children see the difference between a tame animal and a wild one, and shows children the importance of proper animal care.
My grandson enjoyed the story so much that he asked me to read it to him three times, and I did. Illustrations are bright and colorful; print is very large, making it very easy for children to learn and appreciate a good story.Since the print is so large, the book can also be used to teach a young child how to read!
Ms. Stout, you did a super job. I have no problem rating this story 5 stars. I look forward to new adventures with Mandy and the other kittens. Maybe you can let us know how Momma is doing on the farm?
