Managing Your Crazy Self by Turning your Turbulence into Tranquility by Randy Guttenberger is a self-help guide for those who find themselves grappling with feelings that unsettle the stillness we all hope for but always seem to have trouble achieving. The book is broken down into five distinct and interconnected parts, with the first four establishing an understanding of the mind. These include structure, problems, solutions, and the four key relationships. The fifth and final part is on management and taking control of what we can while adjusting to that which we cannot. The book in its entirety is the first stage of Guttenberger's five-step program, which builds on top of the foundational guidance found within its pages and expands into other areas.
I'm sure there isn't anyone out there who would not benefit from the information and advice Randy Guttenberger provides in Managing Your Crazy Self. The exception to this might be my grandmother who has always had a quasi-meditative and abrupt “you've got nothing on me” attitude to life...and a smile for over 80 years. I walked away from the book with quite a bit for myself, particularly in The Conscious Mind. I have allowed bad days to ruin weekends usually spent playing cricket with friends and, with absolute clarity, Guttenberger smacked down how ridiculous this was like a lightning bolt. The artwork by Shawn K. Carson adds levity to Guttenberger's narrative and is really well done. Overall, a wonderful book and the gateway to what looks like a great program.
