Making the Deal (Deal Series Book 1) by Shelby MacKenzie is a sizzling, captivating enemies-to-lovers storyline led by compelling main characters. Rayna “Ray” Raven, a leading entrepreneur, software developer, and litigator, is on the verge of finalizing a life-changing deal with the global law firm, McKells Reed. She has developed ground-breaking software that could help the firm expand its client base and position itself as a technology leader. But there is a problem: the firm’s dealmaker, Jax, is not convinced of Ray’s software’s capabilities. Ray is also frustrated at the growing chemistry between them and prefers to focus on the deal. Despite their efforts to quell their growing attraction, they are drawn to each other. Can Ray find love and at the same time clinch the deal that could change her business?
From its absorbing first scene when Ray meets Jax in a lively meeting that ends in an unexpected outcome, I found myself immersed in the story. I was intrigued by both Jax and Ray and enjoyed the natural flow of their romance. Led by strong-willed, tenacious main characters, the story contains many tense moments which add flavor to the storyline. I also liked how the plot reveals and explores their vulnerability as their love story develops. I loved the novel’s swift pace and enjoyed the other characters’ stories. Shelby MacKenzie’s enthralling romance novel, Making the Deal, is a lovely start to an exciting series. It has twists and a rewarding ending that fans will love and can be read as a stand-alone.
