Magical Crimes Unit: The Scarecrows of New York by M. W. Fowler is the story of Zachary Fright, a brilliant detective with the Magical Crimes Unit. He has no fear – unless it’s an undead clown, then all bets are off. His first case is to find out who killed Walt Cook, an 8-year-old boy, and his journey to the truth is fraught with danger. Hunting a mad warlock who conjures up scarecrows, Fright and his colleague, Logan Kraft, take to the streets of New York, joined by Crecie Cox, Fright’s latest love interest. It's down to the three of them to save the city from the frightful scarecrows and solve the boy’s murder at the same time.

Magical Crimes Unit: The Scarecrows of New York by M. W. Fowler is a tale of magic and madness, of fearless detectives, crazy wizards, and scary scarecrows. Well written and to the point, the story flows smoothly with an action-packed plot. The action starts on page one and from there it really is a helter-skelter journey through dark alleys, facing danger at every turn but with a little humor added to lighten the load. The characters are well-developed and, even though they are magical folk, you can relate to them; they still have real lives and real flaws, just like us mere non-magical people. This was an enjoyable story, easy to read and follow, and with a unique plot that draws you right in. Hold on tight and be prepared for a bumpy, scary ride – no undead clowns but lots of weird scarecrows! Highly recommended for fans of the magical world and those who just want something different to while away a few hours.
